As Hawley prepares the release of new book, "Manhood," a new contender in the 2024 race for his seat proposes a better example.

Many people became aware of Senator Josh Hawley, a Republican from Missouri, during the January 6th insurrection attack on the US Capitol. Photographed outside with his fist raised in solidarity with the rioters, he was later outed as a coward when the select committee investigating the events that day released video of him fleeing as fast he could shortly before the Capitol had been breached.
The image of the man elected to represent Missouri cowering in fear was seared into the mind of one of Missouri's citizens---a military veteran who has no time for Hawley's bullshit. But he does have the time to show Josh how it's done... which is why he's entered the race to remove Hawley from his Senate seat.
Lucas Kunce tweeted on Tuesday, "On January 6, 2021, Josh Hawley showed us he's a fraud and a coward. Missourians deserve a U.S. Senator who's willing to stand and fight. That's why I've decided to take him on." Attached to the tweet was a video, Kunce's first attack ad against the sitting Senator---and the point is potent.
Kunce, a 13-year veteran of the US Marines, is a "different kind of Democrat," according to his website. Growing up with little means---his family bankrupted by medical bills stemming from a heart condition his little sister was born with---he knows the meaning of community and what it means to help your neighbor.
Opening up about the generosity of his Missouri community, he says, "One of my heroes around town, a man who gave us our first dishwasher, was a Marine in Vietnam. He took me around the local Marine Corps League and taught me the meaning of service: selflessness, sacrifice, doing the right thing when no one is looking and expecting nothing in return."
That ethos continues today as Kunce, no longer on active duty, takes every opportunity to use what he has to make sure no one gets left behind here at home. From volunteer work to making his voice heard through the media or publications.

In an op-ed he penned for Fox News, he stated clearly that, "Republicans have turned their backs on veterans like me," referring to the failed vote for the PACT Act, which provides medical treatment and support for veterans who were exposed to toxic burn pits, of which Kunce is one, having been exposed during his time in Iraq. In a similar op-ed for The Daily Beast, he addressed the government, saying, "Stop putting money over Marines and profit over patriotism."
And there's definitely an economic component to the Senate candidate who is'a staunch antitrust advocate. He described his campaign in an op-ed for the Springfield News-Leader, saying, “This is about restoring working people to power, putting the family farmer back in a position to run their farms the way they want to and not be beholden to foreign-backed agricultural monopolies that pillage our land.”
